Where to stay in RVA

RVA stands for Richmond, Virginia, and there are lots of fun things to do and comfortable places to stay while you're here.

My Studiolo (little studio) is located in Artworks, 320 Hull St. Richmond, Va 23224. It has a kitchen with refrigerator and microwave and is located right next to a yummy cafe. I'm in the 'classroom', studio #193.

What To Do:

Take a cruise on our historic river canal

Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg are about 1.5 - 2 hours away by car.

Carytown is a charming shopping area right here in the city with lots of great restaurants (I love The Daily).

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a world class art museum with a rich permanent collection, and exciting visiting exhibitions. (visit the fabulous restaurant Amuse on the 3rd floor or the comfortable cafe on the first floor)

The Valentine Museum was the first private museum in the city of Richmond and houses a large collection focusing on the art, life, and history of the area.

The Hollywood Cemetery is a lovely, 19th century cemetery and as odd as it might seem, is a wonderful place to take an afternoon stroll.

Maymont is a sprawling Victorian estate with wonderful gardens and it's own small zoo!

Where to Stay:

Downtown's charming cobblestone streets

Artworks is right over the 14th Street bridge from downtown, you will most likely want to rent a car or arrange an Uber pick up  if you're coming from out of town. Nothing is really close to the studio. The most convenient hotels are:

HI Richmond Hostel
(students have stayed here and liked it a lot)

Holiday Inn Express

The Marriott Courtyard Downtown

Residence Inn by Marriott (in the same complex)

The Crowne Plaza

The Berkley Hotel

A little further away are:

The One B & B right in the heart of the Museum District and walking distance to Carytown.

Spring Hill Suites by Marriot in Henrico

And there are many private accommodations listed by Air B&B

(I do not get a kickback from Marriott. They're just prolific around here.)
